Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination which violates civil rights. Unfortunately, we live in a world in which it seems that requests for sexual favors, sexual advances and gestures that count as sexual harassment take place every single day. We don’t have any official numbers and for a reason: they are high. A recent study conducted by the Cosmopolitan magazine shows that all women aged between 18 and 34 have experienced a sexual harassment situation. This is a study conducted by a magazine only on women aged between 18 and 34 but what if the study addressed to all people in the workforce at the moment? Can you imagine what such a study would show?

Things are clear: we have a huge sexual harassment problem and it needs to stop. The only way in which this is possible is to educate people and to help them easier recognize a sexual harassment situation when they experience one. The first step would be for you to address the problem to your manager or to your team lead; if you don’t feel comfortable with doing this because the person who is sexually harassing you is part of the same team and you are afraid of the idea of no action being taken at all, then please address the problem to the HR department.
